Well well well, ElJay, long time no see

I donapos;t really know why I went on a blogless hiatus, but I did. Lots of things have happened, good and bad, and it would take forever to catch you all up on them. So I wonapos;t. Instead, Iapos;m going to look at this as a fresh new beginning. Also, Iapos;m going to make this journal PUBLIC. Eek Egads

No more hiding my thoughts and feelings behind "friends only" settings. Plus, I really donapos;t have anything to hide anymore. Iapos;m proud of where I am in my life, Iapos;m proud of what Iapos;ve accomplished, and Iapos;m most proud of being an "I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T" lady (gosh, I love that song) who makes mistakes and learns from them.

So. Iapos;m still in school to become an RVT (registered veterinary technician). I even have my own raspberry-pink stethoscope with the abbreviation a little prematurely following my name engraved on it. Iapos;ve got over a year of work experience at a veterinary clinic under my belt, and I canapos;t even begin to describe how LIGHT YEARS ahead of my classmates I am because of my amazing boss, Dr. Kelley Owen, and a certain tech who I bowl in a league with every Thursday night Work experience has taught me way more than any class could. I could list all of my skills here...you know, like how I can perform a phlebotomy on a screaming kitten, or how I can run a complete CBC, Chem12, and electrolyte blood test on an ailing geriatric, or how I can properly handle (and sometimes "manhandle") and restrain a scared, aggressive boxer or pit bull who would love nothing more than todestroy my face. But...I donapos;t want to brag. :o)

The following is a quote from Veterinary Technician, a monthly medical journal. I love it because it states what Iapos;ve been trying to explain to people when they ask, "What does a vet tech do?"
Most people donapos;t understand how skilled veterinary technicians need to be to accomplish their jobs. "Technicians have to be able to perform a phlebotomy, run a lab, develop radiographs and assist during surgery. In addition, a technician has to be a dental hygienist, an anesthetist, a nurse and a patient advocate,"says Marianne. "In an average day, we might perform multiple tasks that all require advanced medical knowledge and training, but nobody outside the profession knows who we are"
Amen, sister.

Until next time, bizatches.
